The numbers
What happened to my Mac app in four months.
SupaSidebar is my Mac app. In spring it was doing about 1,000 visitors a month, and I did not know much about SEO. I spent the next few months fixing that. These are the Search Console and PostHog numbers since, screenshots included.
Before and after
Before and after.
The system went in on April 28. Same app, same site. Each row compares Dec 27 to Apr 27 with Apr 28 to Sep 1.
| Before: Dec 27 to Apr 27 | After: Apr 28 to Sep 1 | Growth | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website visitors | 4.83K | 62.1K | +1,185% |
| Search impressions | 15K | 2.56M | +16,967% |

Search Console for the same stretch: 2.56M impressions and 26.7K clicks, almost all of it after April 28.

Onboarding, free text
Where people said they found it.
The app asks every new user where they found it. It is a free text box, so I grouped the last 1,000 answers by hand.
| Where | Of the last 1,000 answers |
|---|---|
| Google or search | 321 |
| An AI assistant | 155 |
| Everything else | 524 |

ChatGPT, August 25
What ChatGPT says when you ask it.
I opened a private window, not logged in, and asked four questions a buyer of the app might ask. Yellow marks what I want you to see: the app in the answer, and the app's own posts in the source panel.

Month by month
What it looked like in June, July, and September.
Search Console screenshots I took along the way, all counting from the same start.
